Afterlight

Afterlight is a fairly dark album. when i made it, i was experimenting with microtonality and drone; both things i'd never really explored before, but which i think really added a lot to the final product. Afterlight is a very personal album to me, partly because of the use of various samples from my own life. this album is a big step up from any of the work that came before it for sure.

Utrinikai / Sunkiller is a single. well, a double. okay, it's a triple. i kind of went overboard with it. i consider this release part of the same "era" as transience... the album cover definitely fits stylistically. the free release contains the two titular tracks, one of which is reworked from something pretty old, and the download adds a third (an updated version of a SMUSH track).

if you've spent any time on this site, this one probably looks familiar! this album is a compilation of the first 25 SMUSH tracks. because of that, it's really not an album experience; i mostly made it just so i could properly release them. the release date is the original date i started adding to the album. initially, it was going to be continuously updated with every new SMUSH, but once i slowed down quite a bit, i decided to cut it off at 25. maybe the next 25 will be volume 2 :)

this album is not my finest work. it's the soundtrack to the newgrounds game Portal Re:/ Flashed, and i was commissioned 60 usd to make it. i don't think it came out horribly, but i'm also not that proud of it in hindsight. the cover art was made by JamesTDG, the artist for the game.

the purpose of this compilation, really, was to de-clutter my bandcamp page. i felt that i had moved on in terms of quality from those early singles, and decided to collect them all into one album. the one exception is gobernacion; i liked it enough to leave it as its own thing. snowfield would have remained as well, but i included it in transience already.

this is an extended version of the track finity from transience. pretty self-explanatory. i wanted to make a longer version, and decided to use this version on the cassette release of transience, because i think small enhancements like that are neat.

transience is my first full-length album. i was very proud of it at the time, and i still think it holds up decently well. it's definitely got some issues — the mixing is really quite abysmal, for one — but i hold it dear to my heart, since it represents my trans journey of self-discovery that i was going through at the time. also, one of the bonus tracks was made by my friend laiopsol :3

gobernacion was really fun to make. the concept of the track is that it's almost entirely composed of phone samples; i was on a trip to mexico, and recorded various dial tones and other samples from the hotel room's landline. the cover art is a picture of an airplane cockpit. the pilot and copilot let me go in and take photos :3

snowfield is, i think, the best of the singles i released pre-transience. it was the second "best song" that i made, Mercury being my first. i still feel like it holds up relatively well, and i think it was a good choice to include it on transience.

oh boy. Mercury was the first single i ever released; i had recently gotten my hands on fl studio, and it was one of the first things i ever made using it. definitely does not hold up anymore, but for a brief time i was worried i'd never make anything as good is this again. look at how far i've come :3
aaaand that's it! for now. some time in the future i may include my *early* early work here... if only for preservation's sake. if you're interested in utter bullshit, stay tuned :3
